What is this?

Filed under: Plants, Flowers, Gardening — Administrator @ 5:09 pm
018.JPG Can anyone tell me what kind of flower this is? It has thorns like you find on citrus trees. Thrives well in hot summer heat, with plenty of water and plant food. There’s a man down the road from me who has one of these and it grows very large each year. I saw that he cut it back very severe, about a month ago. It’s absolutely beautiful, in the summer, when everything else is trying to die from the heat.Is it a “florabogosa”? I think that was what the man’s wife ,was trying to say to me, the day I stopped by to admire his and ask what it was. Either way, it would be nice to name it correctly.

Hibiscus

025.JPG  I’m still trying to figure out the type of hibiscus this is? Got any ideas? It sure is a different breed. Many people who see it think it’s the funny weed. But when it starts to bloom, they are amazed at it’s flowers. This flower doesn’t look like the flowers that I had before. The other hibiscus plants, had different flowers. I’ve found the tropical hibiscus to have double flowers, as well as single one’s. I found this at a flea market, and a Spanish person, had it and cactus plants for sale. A lot of people looked at me funny, when I was carrying it to the car. 044.JPG  I really like the flowers and it also, is good during the summer, with plenty of water and plant food. The seed pods, that mature after the flower has fallen off, are exactly the same as the other hibiscus plants. I saved a few for more of the pretty plant this coming year. As you can tell I like a lot of flowering plants, in the yard and on my porch’s.

Poinsetta

Filed under: Plants, Flowers, Gardening — Administrator @ 5:06 pm

4th July 2007 Thanksgiving 020.jpg  As you can tell this poinsetta was left out during the last frost we had here in the area. It was under the roof of the porch, but the chill got down into the 20’s and it just didn’t make it. There does seem to be a small area where the plant is still alive, and I may be able to salvage some of it. That way, it will come out in the spring and do fair.

Roses

069.JPG Would you believe I still have roses, blooming even though we’ve had 2 or 3 frosts. I can’t believe how resilient they are. I lost alot of my plants, because the chill got into the 20’s. They were under the roof of my porch, but the wind was high, so they bit the dust. I’m surprised at the plants that are still alive. yellow rose  My hibiscus got frozen, but I expected it. I’m hoping the roots had a good foundation and they will come out again in the spring. Once again, here’s to the beautiful roses…………keep up the good work. I love beautiful roses, so to have them, I have to grow them. Can’t wait on someone to decide to give me roses. I might never get them.

Christmas Cactus

WOW……….. I don’t believe it! Every time this thing has bloomed, it has been either after Christmas or around Thanksgiving.flowers 002.jpg It actually got it right for a change…..imagine that! I got a cutting of it, back in 1996 from a lady I worked with. It rooted and has grown into this. It’s really been needing repotting, but I’ve been lazy and busy with other things. I would like to get some other colors, and have a variety of these. flowers 001.jpg Like I need another house plant to find a place for. If I keep on, I’ll have to build a hot house, to house all my tender plants.
