Writing

Filed under: Business & Economy — Administrator @ 2:42 pm

I’ve run into the options of how to write, in recent years and it seems that jumping on to the computer has taken it’s toll on the office supply industry. They have had to venture into the computer supply area just to keep afloat. Now, you can go and find almost anything that is associated with computers, printers and copiers.
Almost gone are the days of taking up a pad and pencil and making a written statement. Mostly, executives and associates, handle their transactions on an IPod or Blackberry. But there are the struggling companies that resort to the traditional pens and scratch pads.
Awards or incentive products are available to give as trinkets at parties, seminars and corporate meetings. You can find tables, with free personalized pens , note pads, post-it’s, all with the logo of the organization or company involved in the presentations. I have to go through my home many times and clean out these things because I have let the supplies build up over the months and year.
My boss have his corporate envelopes, stationary, pens and such with his name and rank engraved on them. I guess it’s a sign of status, which is something most people strive for these days. It’s great to look at your name plate on the door of an executive office. You realize the responsibilities that come with that office and strive to achieve them.

Sending A Card

Filed under: Business & Economy, Ideas, Other — Administrator @ 1:16 pm

It’s been a long ago process, where I could get someone to send me a card while they were on vacation. I’ve even asked them to get me a trinket that is from one of the ports or cities that they visit. I actually got one couple to bring me a small thing with a magnet underneath, that you can put on your fridge door.
Today, I just can’t seem to install that old tradition in my friends and family’s minds. They have the new technology, as I do and want to send an email in a hurry. It’s the big thing to send IM’s or emails to your friends and family. The have the recent photos and an update of your daily lives. The way to have the best memories is to use save the date postcards and then you can have them to look back on. I realize that you must take the time to buy the postage and send it by mail, which is getting sort of out of date. Still when you consider the memories that will last long after the emails have been deleted, then you’ve got a plus. I often look back at old memories and find myself wishing that time hadn’t moved so fast.

Deer Crossing………

Filed under: Business & Economy, Computers & Internet, Other — Tags: , , , , , — Administrator @ 3:15 pm

A deer crossing the road, can cause you to go crazy if suddenly it looms in front of you a few hundred feet away. That’s exactly what has happened to driver’s who love to drive in the countryside of many states. If you hit one then you know about those awful sounds coming from your vehicle and the bunch of steam coming from under the hood? Not only is your car damaged but the radiator is busted and all the coolant is on the ground. Believe me, that vehicle is not going any farther down that road. It’s time for a tow truck and some needed roadside assistance.
My sister had that happen last year, and she ended up in the hospital with a broken leg, cracked ribs, facial cuts and plenty of bruises. She says that the airbag did a lot of the damage to her face, but I’m glad her car had one. Just imagine the shape she would have been in if her car wasn’t equipped with airbags. The insurance company was very supportive and had the car towed to a local bodyshop , paid for her hospital bills and helped her get a rent car to drive while her’s was being repaired. Her out of pocket expense was the insurance deductible and that was hard for her to manage. Being a single mom, makes finding extra money very hard at times.

Snowy Weather…….

I’m not ready for this cold weather, and all the problems that come with it. I’ve tried real hard not to be on the roads, when the weather gets bad. There a just too many wrecks during heavy traffic times. It’s necessary to keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and maintain a normal speed for the flow of traffic. There’s always some person in a big hurry, or not watching what they are doing. It results in someone having a wreck and causing a lot of damage to the vehicles involved.
Cold, snowy, rainy weather adds to the chances of having a wreck and then you are stuck with having to employ a collision repair shop to get the damage fixed. It makes no difference whether your at fault or not the damage is done. Very often insurance companies try to find fault in order to keep from covering your vehicle damage. Having to deal with their appraisers is a pain, and can get on your nerves. I don’t like dealing with insurance companies, over a wreck. It always sends your premiums sky high, and makes it difficult to pay for proper insurance coverage.
Needless to say, that’s why it’s smart to stay at home during bad weather.

Vacation Memories……

Filed under: Business & Economy, Other — Administrator @ 5:03 pm

I’ve been around several people down through the year’s who were getting ready to leave on a vacation to some exotic place. Actually, they would be doing what most of us in the blue collar world would love to be able to afford. I know I would love to get away to a beautiful ports of call, and lounge around for a week or so.
When people who were friends or family were leaving on vacation, I would request they bring me something back from the places they were visiting. If not to at least send me a postcard. Usually, they would bring me a small trinket or “what not” with something pertaining to the vacation attached.
I notice that many people who go on vacations, don’t send nice postcards like they once did when on vacations. Actually, there have been times when you would literally beat the postcard back home because of the postal service. Many people are using their camera cell phones to transport memories to family and friends. This has become a more viable source than using the postal service. Since the electronic industry has expanded the postal service has lost valuable business, and forced them go up on their price’s plus cut back on hours and personnel. This hampers their efficiency in customer service and slows down mail delivery.

Waste Management….

Filed under: Business & Economy, Other, Society & Culture — Administrator @ 3:29 pm

I met a man a few years back who worked for one of the major waste management firms in the local DFW area. He was the router, who made sure the trucks hit the road at a certain time, went to the companies that were on their lists at the exact specified locations and followed their progress during the scheduled work time. It was a stressful job and one I tried to hire on for. I figured if he could handle it, so could I. There were several different aspects to handle and I’m sure that the Waste Management Software they used was adequate, but could probably have been updated. It was a very stressful and overwhelming time, when we had all those people come up here and stay at the convention center, during the hurricanes. Waste management companies were working at top level out put.
