It’s finally here, along with all the things we need to do, to get ready for the growing months ahead. I find that it’s harder than I thought, since getting the ground worked is not happening. The weather, here has been rather wet. Just about the time I believe the ground is going to be dry enough to till, it rains again. I’m not being able to get certain crops in the ground because of this.

Moon Planting
Understanding effects, and timing your gardening chores accordingly, is a basis of moon gardening. The moon moves in a complete cycle every 29 days. In moon gardening, this cycle is divided in four quarters or phases. Phase refers to the moon’s shape viewed from earth during the month. To plant by moon phases you need an almanac or calendar. It lists exact time and date of the moon phases. A lunar month starts with a new moon, also called “dark of the moon”. From the new moon to first quarter and from first quarter to full moon, the moon grows to a crescent and then a full circle, mid-month. The increasing or waxing phases.

I’m Not Sure

I had this plant that someone sold to me, and it didn’t have a name. I got tired of it being in the large container, so I planted it in the front yard near the corner of the house. It took off to growing, and I noticed that it really bloomed when it would rain. So, I tried to keep it watered as much as I could. Here, it is showing the pretty purple blooms, which were numerous.

Dream Wedding……
I not sure if you are one of those “little girl romantics” as I am. Down through the years I would dream of this outstanding wedding, held out in the yard or garden. I could see me walking down the path, all decked out in my wedding gown. Ahead of me would be my waiting groom, with a big smile on his face.
My yard wasn’t the most outstanding of yards, so my child like mind would adapt to the differences and figure an illusion beyond it’s limits. It all would be handled in some sort of form or fashion, I dreamed. I could see the roses, the bouquets and even the gazebo. I had to have one of those to stand under, in my dream.
I could see me going to the store and picking out a dress, trying it on and moving about the wedding accessories trying to choose my veil, plus amenities. There had to be this and that to accompany my bridesmaids and maid of honor. I could see it all coming together in my small girl dreams. This was going to be one of those fairy tale type weddings, with all the trimmings. Everything was supposed to fall into place. Unfortunately, the fair tale didn’t come true and our finances were lacking as well.
Kalachi…….

This is one of the plants I brought with me when I moved into the apartment. I hope I spelled the name of the plant right, because I really wasn’t sure of the spelling. As with most of my indoor plants, this one loves the bright window, and sunlight. I placed it in my sunniest room, with direct contact to the morning sun. I noticed that it’s starting to put on small flowers, not in this photo which was taken a month ago.

Time To ………
I guess by now most of you that live in the US are experiencing a bit of cool weather. Here in Texas it’s not as bad as some place. There are many areas already having snow and I’m glad to be where I am. Cold weather is something I dread each year. I have to bring in all my plants, that will freeze and my house becomes a greenhouse. I have yet to get someone to build a greenhouse outdoors for that use. I’m not as rich as some people so each thing I accomplish has to be planned for financially, after the other things that need done.
So, I’ve moved all the plants that were sitting out on the sidewalk and around the house, in under the porch, in order to protect them from frost. It won’t be long until they will have to be moved inside, because of the low temps and then the shifting around begins. Finding a a place to sit them so they can get much needed sunshine or light, becomes a chore. Each year this gets harder to accomplish, since I manage to adopt more plants during the spring and summer months. I guess I’ll have to build on a screened in porch that I can place a small heater in, to keep the temperatures from dropping too low.

Coleus
I’m not really sure on how the spelling of this plant is……but it’s a coleus and if it’s supposed to be different, I’m sure there will be some one who, will tell me. Either way, it came up from seed and grew in the flower bed, next to the front porch, last year and then went to seed and one of the seeds came up in this pot. So, I have a member of the same plant growing for next year’s growth and plants and enjoyment.

Storms
Storms tore through the DFW area in Texas early this morning, knocking out power for awhile. There was severe lightning and loud claps of thunder following it. The wind was blowing an rain beating against the house in torrents. Once again, our area got a good rain and this gives us more than we’ve normally had during the summer months. It’s brought cooling temperatures, which help as long as it doesn’t get humid right after. The humidity, makes you have to turn the air conditioners back on or suffer.

Verbenia
I planted this last year in a hanging pot and somehow it survived the intense, heat and winter cold we experience here in Texas………so, I transplanted it into this bigger pot, and it’s really spreading. With each rain, I get these pretty flowers. At the bottom of the picture there are house leeks, that are really growing as well…………and will soon have the pretty light pink flowers on it.

Crimson Mandevilla
My boyfriend bought me this last year and they almost died during the winter.………isn’t it gorgeous….actually he bought 2 one for either side of the front porch. I love beautiful flowers, and always try to have plenty around me, all through the year. I find them to be uplifting, don’t you? Today, has been rainy and so I have they getting all this nice rain. If possible I will try to save them this year and not let the cold bring them down.
